Tina Knowles started her career at 19 when she relocated to California to work as a makeup artist for Shiseido. Knowles opened the salon Headliners, located in Houston in 1990. The salon went on to become one of the most famous hair businesses in Houston. Tina's rise to prominence came as costume designer for Destiny's Child. In the early days of her daughter's career, when money was limited, she created outfits that the members wore on-stage and to events. In 2002, she published a book titled Destiny's Style: Bootylicious Fashion, Beauty and Lifestyle Secrets From Destiny's Child in which she discussed how fashion affected Destiny's Child's success.
In 2004, Tina Knowles launched the clothing line House of Deréon alongside Beyoncé named after Agnes Deréon. On November 22, 2010, Knowles appeared with Beyoncé onThe View to promote her clothing line called "Miss Tina by Tina Knowles". In 2009, she expanded the line to Walmart after it was previously being sold on the Home Shopping Network. Discussing her style of designing for the line, Knowles revealed she aimed to "hide flaws and create a slimming silhouette", adding, "Everything is created like a foundation garment, even the dresses. The pieces are designed to make the woman look leaner and taller. In early 2010, Tina Knowles again collaborated with Beyoncé to open the Beyoncé Cosmetology Center at the Phoenix House in Brooklyn.
Richard Lawson has had a long and distinguished career as an actor and master teacher that spans almost 5 decades. His first professional job was in the national company of the Pulitzer Prize-winning play by Charles Gordone, No Place to Be Somebody. Some of the more notable performances in the years to follow included Drama Critics Awards for his work in Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom at the Los Angeles Theater Center (LATC) and Streamers directed by Milton Katselas at the Westwood Playhouse. Other memorable experiences included productions of Fool For Love at LATC, Checkmates at the Westwood Playhouse, a New York Shakespeare production of The Mighty Gents, a New York Manhattan Theater Company world premiere of The Talented 10th, the American premiere of Hapgood at the Doolittle Theatre in Los Angeles, Visions and Lovers at the Skylight Theater, and The Exonerated at the Actors Gang Theater in Los Angeles.
Some of his selected films include Steven Spielberg’s Poltergeist, Walter Hill’s Streets of Fire, Stick with Burt Reynolds, The Main Event with Barbra Streisand and Ryan O’Neal, Coming Home with Jane Fonda and Jon Voight, Audrey Rose with Anthony Hopkins and Marsha Mason, Wag the Dog, starring Robert De Niro and Dustin Hoffman, How Stella Got Her Groove Back, starring Whoopi Goldberg and Angela Bassett, Guess Who, starring Bernie Mac and Ashton Kutcher, and For Colored Girls, directed by Tyler Perry. As an acting and teaching protégé of one the finest and most respected acting teachers in the world, Milton Katselas, Richard honed his skills and sharpened his abilities. Recognizing a hole in the teaching model, he went on to create one of the most cutting edge schools in existence – the Richard Lawson Studios (RLS).
The RLS uses motivational and cutting-edge computer technology to impart Richard’s 46 years as a successful actor, teacher, public speaker, and drug counselor for the National Basketball Association to empower artists and professionals to achieve their dreams. On the other side of the coin, he uses time-tested acting techniques to empower non-artists, job-seekers, or regular people to achieve their dreams.
Zuhairah is a seasoned business executive with over a decade of startup and general management experience in global markets including San Francisco, London, Dubai, New York, and Washington, DC. Zuhairah is passionate about leveraging technology and developing high-performance teams to build profitable, innovative, and disruptive businesses. Zuhairah is currently a General Manager for Uber’s Xchange Leasing business where she is responsible for East Coast operations. Previously, Zuhairah ran Uber's DC Metro business and grew it to be one of the largest and most profitable at Uber. In this capacity, Zuhairah led the regional launches of uberX, uberPOOL, uberWAV and uberFAMILY. She also played an integral role in getting industry regulations passed in all three jurisdictions.
Prior to Uber, Zuhairah was Founder & CEO of an award winning mobile startup and the Director of Business Development of Europe’s largest local search and user-generated review website with 17M users in 10 countries and 7 languages. Prior to launching her career in tech, Zuhairah was a Regional Vice President at MacFarlane Partners, a high-growth, entrepreneurial real estate private equity firm with $20B in AUM.
Zuhairah grew up in Los Angeles and graduated magna cum laude from UCLA with a major in Political Science and a minor in Public Policy. She later went on to earn her JD/MBA from Harvard where she focused on general management and finance. Zuhairah’s charitable priorities include increasing the number of women and minorities in tech and improving access to capital and entrepreneurial opportunities in low-income communities. Lesley Slaton Brown is the Chief Diversity Officer at HP. With more than 20 years of experience in the technology industry, Lesley has a unique ability to align and build strategy across organizations and drive business outcomes within corporations, start-ups and non-profits. Coupling her global marketing, branding, communications and diversity and inclusion experience, with a deep passion for social entrepreneur and leadership development, she has led key efforts to address the digital divide and build sustainable enterprise in Senegal, West Africa. Most recently, Lesley served as the Principal Investigator for the National Action Council for Minorities in Engineering (NACME), “Go West” Computing Project. This project focused on broadening representation of women and minorities in computing education and careers. Lesley was recently awarded the 2016 Woman of the Year in Technology by Silicon Valley’s Chapter of National Coalition of 100 Black Women, Inc., in addition to the 2016 Multicultural Leadership Award by the National Diversity Council. Lesley was twice recognized by Black Enterprise as a Top Executive in Marketing and Advertising, Savoy Magazine as a Top Influential Woman in Corporate America and was featured in Diversity Journal’s Leaders Publication. Lesley believes strongly in giving back to the community.
